Seniors - 16,000 new pensioners in Hamburg

Approximately 16,000 women and men in Hamburg received a pension from the statutory pension insurance for the first time last year. This is approximately 1,800 more than in 2022, according to Deutsche Rentenversicherung Nord, which announced this on Thursday in Lübeck. Most of them, around 8,800, went into retirement because they had reached the statutory retirement age. This age is currently 66 years and two months for the birth year 1959. The statutory retirement age will gradually increase to 67 years until 2031.

"The Baby Boomer generation is increasingly reaching retirement age, which is noticeable in significantly increasing numbers," said Sebastian Bollig, spokesperson for Deutsche Rentenversicherung Nord. A total of around 305,000 pensions were paid out by the German Pension Insurance in Hamburg at the end of the previous year. Nationwide, it paid out a statutory pension to approximately 18.7 million people.

Approximately 3,300 Hamburg women and men therefore received a pension without deductions, the so-called pension with 63, for the first time last year - around 900 more than in 2022. Around 3,100 Hanseatic women and men retired early with at least 35 contribution years and a minimum age of 63. They had 0.3 percent of the pension amount deducted per month for early retirement.
