150 million euros for new heart center in Dresden
The construction of a new heart center in Dresden is intended to further expand and improve medical care in this area. "Cardiovascular diseases are one of the main causes of health problems and we must ensure that our population has access to first-class care," said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) in Dresden on Tuesday.
The Ministry is funding the project with around 150 million euros, with construction costs reportedly totaling 294 million euros. Köpping spoke of one of the "largest and most important construction projects" in Saxony's healthcare landscape.
The new building is to be constructed close to the university hospital and will cover an area of around 18,000 square meters. Plans include 220 beds, four operating theaters, an emergency room and a day clinic for cardiology and heart surgery treatments. Cooperation with the medical faculty of TU Dresden in the areas of research and teaching is to be expanded.
With the new building, the capacity of the existing heart center can be significantly expanded, said Thomas Lemke, CEO of the Sana Kliniken, to which the heart center belongs. In times of "maximum uncertainty" and postponed investments, this lighthouse project is a good signal, said Lemke. According to the information provided, the hospital group will also invest a three-digit million sum.
The new heart center, with its focus on cardiovascular diseases, is a testament to the government's commitment towards enhancing overall health and medicine in the region. The center, equipped with advanced facilities like operating theaters and a day clinic, will provide top-notch medicine for heart-related issues.
