15-year-old died after being poisoned with ecstasy

Almost five months after the death of a 15-year-old girl from Rathenow, it has been established that the girl died of serotonin syndrome as a result of poisoning with the drugs ecstasy and amphetamine. According to a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office in Potsdam on Monday, this was the result of a toxicology report. The "Märkische Allgemeine" reported on this on Sunday. In this syndrome, too much of the neurotransmitter serotonin is present, which can lead to high body temperature, anxiety, tremors or delirium, for example. The girl died in hospital in June. The case caused horror in Brandenburg and beyond Rathenow.

Ecstasy was detected in the girl at a concentration of 640 nanograms per milliliter, the public prosecutor's office announced. The toxic range is therefore 350 to 500 nanograms per milliliter. According to a spokeswoman, it was not the ecstasy variant "Blue Punisher". According to the authorities, amphetamine was detected in a concentration of 75 nanograms per milliliter, the toxic range is 200. According to the spokeswoman, the public prosecutor's office is continuing to investigate the existing initial suspicion that a young person may have supplied the girl with the drugs.

The tragedy underscores the importance of educating children about the dangers of drug use, as ecstasy and amphetamine are linked to numerous health issues and crimes. The girl's unfortunate death serves as a stark reminder that substance abuse can have severe consequences on one's health and safety, even leading to tragic incidents.
