15,000 more unemployed in Berlin than a year ago
The number of unemployed people in Berlin has risen over the past twelve months. 190,807 people were registered as unemployed in November, according to the regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency on Thursday. That was 1964 fewer than in the previous month, but 15,216 more than a year ago. The unemployment rate now stands at 9.2 percent. A year ago it was 8.7 percent. However, companies in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region are still looking for staff and the employment outlook is positive, said regional director Ramona Schröder.
The employment agencies and job centers were notified of 5046 new vacancies in November. That was 82 fewer than in the previous month. A total of 20,267 vacancies were registered in the capital this month - 536 more than in November last year.
Despite the increase in unemployment in Berlin, companies in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region continue to seek new employees, indicating a positive employment outlook. The ongoing demand for labor in the region highlights the importance of addressing the issues within the labor market to reduce unemployment rates.
