Emergencies - 14-year-old rescued from river
Rescue workers have rescued a 14-year-old girl from a river in Föritztal (Sonneberg district). The girl fell down an embankment on Saturday night and fell into the water, police said on Sunday. Her friend tried to help her, but also fell into the river. However, she managed to get out herself. Her parents alerted the emergency services. The mountain rescue service was also called out due to the soft ground and steep slope. A total of 59 crew members were involved in rescuing the girl.
The river was swollen due to the meltwater and the police spoke of a life-threatening current. However, the girl had been in the less swollen section of the river. She was taken to a clinic.
According to the police, there were initially no indications that the incident was the fault of a third party. The girl had apparently been drinking alcohol.
