Excessive speed - 11-year-old died after accident with suspected speeding driver

After being hit by an alleged reckless driver in Dortmund, a 11-year-old boy died. The police announced on Thursday that the child succumbed to his severe injuries on Tuesday. Investigators are checking if the 19-year-old driver of the car participated in a prohibited car race, as Prosecutor Carsten Dombert stated.

The boy was hit by the 19-year-old's car around 9 pm on a street on Saturday evening. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver was driving at an excessive speed and disregarded a traffic light.

If a driver behaves recklessly and disregards traffic rules to achieve the highest possible speed, investigators may consider this as a so-called "solitary race." The investigation into this matter is ongoing, Dombert said. Experts are expected to be heard regarding the existing evidence.

Investigations at the scene of the accident had already begun in the evening of the incident. A forensic expert also conducted further investigations three days after the accident.

The alleged reckless incident took place in Dortmund, which is located in North Rhine-Westphalia. The accident occurred on a Saturday evening on a local street. The police in North Rhine-Westphalia are further investigating if the 19-year-old driver involved in the accident had participated in a prohibited car race, as suggested by Prosecutor Carsten Dombert.
