1. FC Nürnberg loses to Karlsruher SC after a lightning goal

1. FC Nuremberg conceded a heavy defeat in the 2nd Bundesliga. A lightning goal after less than 15 seconds and two late goals, however, helped Karlsruher SC to a home win. In the ultimately clear 1:4 (0:1) on Sunday, Paul Nebel gave the hosts an unusually early lead in the entertaining duel. Former Nuremberg relegation hero Fabian Schleusener (70') and Budu Siwsiwadse with a late brace (89'/90'+4) scored the other goals for the recently struggling Baden side. Can Uzun, who is only 18 years old, had equalized for Nuremberg in the meantime (61').

With the defeat after the international break, Cristian Fiel's Franconians failed to keep up with the promotion places and are still ninth with 21 points. KSC moved up to 14th place and moved three points clear of the relegation places.

Midfielder Nebel scored after a long shot and narrowly missed the record for the fastest goal in German professional soccer. Benjamin Siegert was quicker on October 5, 2007, when he scored after just eight seconds to make it 1-0 for SV Wehen Wiesbaden against SpVgg Greuther Fürth in a second division match.

The ideal start suited the hosts after just one win from their previous nine second division games. Coach Christian Eichner's side did not take too many risks, but created several great chances on the newly laid turf. Nuremberg were ineffective offensively in a disappointing first half.

In the second half, it looked at times as if the missed opportunities could take revenge for KSC. Schleusener hit the crossbar for the hosts, who had hit the post in the first half. Schleusener headed in a cross from Nebel and Siwsiwadse, who had come on as a substitute shortly before, scored both goals to make it 1-1.

Following the disappointing 1-4 loss, 1st FC Nuremberg continues to struggle for promotion in the 2nd Bundesliga, remaining in ninth position with 21 points. On the other hand, Karlsruhe SC capitalized on this opportunity, moving three points away from the relegation zone after their win over their opponents. The match saw Karlsruhe SC's Karlsruher SC's Paul Nebel scoring the fastest goal in Bundesliga 2 in over a decade, surpassing Benjamin Siegert's record from 2007, who scored in eight seconds for SV Wehen Wiesbaden against SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
