1. FC Nürnberg in the round of 16 at 1. FC Kaiserslautern

As the last remaining Bavarian soccer club, 1. FC Nürnberg will face 1. FC Kaiserslautern in a second division clash in the DFB Cup round of 16. Coach Cristian Fiel's team will face Betzenberg on December 5 or 6. This was the result of the draw on Sunday. The exact dates of the matches are yet to be determined.

Nuremberg, the 2007 DFB Cup winners, qualified for the round of 16 with a 3-2 win after extra time against Hansa Rostock. FCN would receive 1.7 million euros in bonuses alone if they reached the quarter-finals. Record winners FC Bayern Munich were disgraced by a 2-1 defeat at 1. FC Saarbrücken in the second round of the competition and were eliminated.

Third-division side Saarbrücken will now face last year's finalists Eintracht Frankfurt. Borussia Dortmund must play at VfB Stuttgart. A second Bundesliga clash will take place between Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg. Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen have a home game against SC Paderborn in the round of 16.

  1. Despite their second division status, 1. FC Nuremberg, known for their 2007 DFB Cup victory, will aim for another successful run in the competition, facing 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the round of 16.
  2. Following the draw, 1. FC Nuremberg and 1. FC Kaiserslauter will contend in the DFB Cup, with a potential opportunity for 1. FC Nuremberg to earn 1.7 million euros in bonuses if they make it to the quarter-finals, as they did in 2007.
