Bundesliga 2 - 1. FC Nuremberg wants to get "everything" out of it again

Coach Cristian Fiel is already satisfied with his 1. FC Nürnberg 's points haul ahead of the end-of-season clash against Hamburger SV. But in the first-half finale on Saturday (13:00/Sky) in front of at least 42,000 fans in the home stadium, it could be a little more. "I would have signed for 24 points," said Fiel on Friday about the current record. "I think we'll be going on a well-deserved winter break after a good first round, but we'll still try to give it everything we've got tomorrow to win."

A win against coach Tim Walter's struggling HSV would give Nuremberg 27 points, just one less than the Hanseatic side after 17 matchdays. The club finished the previous first half of the season with 19 points under coach Markus Weinzierl. Fiel would now like his team to "put another game on the pitch where you can see everything we have worked hard for over the last few months."

The Nuremberg coach will definitely be without midfielder Jens Castrop, who has muscular problems, and goalkeeper Christian Mathenia. Mathenia suffered a torn muscle fiber in his thigh during the 1-0 win against SV Elversberg on Sunday. The keeper was substituted in the 71st minute and was replaced by Carl Klaus. "He's always there when you need him," said Fiel, praising Mathenia's 29-year-old replacement.

FCN have to worry about the participation of super talent Can Uzun. The attacking player "is still questionable," admitted Fiel. "He's not pain-free yet." Uzun has been plagued by adductor problems for some time. The 18-year-old, who has scored six times this season, last made an appearance two weeks ago in the 5-0 home defeat to Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Whether due to personnel setbacks or rumors about a possible coaching leave at the opponent from the north: Fiel chooses a self-determined mission. "We want to win games because we do it well," he said in response to speculation about Walter's impending departure from Hamburger SV.

Nevertheless, he has great respect for the traditional club. "A club like Hamburg isn't normally allowed to play in the 2nd division, so you always have drama there," said Fiel. Despite the turmoil surrounding the club, he is certain "that they will have a say in the top three places right to the end." If Nuremberg win, they could get back into the race themselves.
