The German second-tier league, Bundesliga 2. - 1. FC Köln acquires Australian head coach Struber.

Right before the training begins in two weeks, relegated Bundesliga team 1. FC Köln has brought on board Austrian Gerhard Struber as their new coach. The 47-year-old who replaces Timo Schultz, whose contract didn't get extended, signed a deal on Tuesday, confirmed by FC Köln. Struber is set to begin his job on June 21st during the performance examinations. On June 24th, the formal training commencement at Geißbockheim will happen, and this is when the new coach of the second-division club should be introduced.

Struber is excited about the challenge ahead, saying, "I'm eager to take on this task with plenty of zeal." Most recently, he managed Red Bull Salzburg and before that Wolfsberger AC and the English second-division squad FC Barnsley. "I want to take the plunge right away into the FC world to chase our goals and achieve them," Struber added.

Köln's managing director Christian Keller is pleased with the appointment and feels Struber is the perfect fit for the team, mentioning his versatility in adapting to the FC style of play, along with his skill and experience in nurturing young players.
