German Ice Hockey League - 1:3 against Mannheim: Eisbären Berlin give up lead in the table

After five wins in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), the Eisbären Berlin suffered another defeat and lost the lead in the table. On Sunday, the capital city team lost 1:3 (0:0, 1:1, 0:2) against Adler Mannheim. Yannick Veilleux scored the only goal for the Berliners, who only found their game late on and took too many time penalties.

The 14,200 spectators in the sold-out arena at Ostbahnhof saw a tense game right from the start with many tough duels and time penalties on both sides. The visitors were the more dangerous team and went into the first break with a clear advantage in chances. In the second period, the Kurpfalz made the most of their superiority: Tyler Gaudet scored in the powerplay.

The Berliners, who had long struggled in offense against the robust defending visitors, now became more determined and were rewarded with Veilleux's equalizer.

Both teams missed numerous good opportunities in the final period before Mannheim decided the game in their favor in the last two minutes. First, former Eisbären pro Daniel Fischbuch scored, then David Wolf made sure of the final score after Berlin goalie Jake Hildebrand had left the ice in favor of an extra skater.
