Bundesliga 2 - 1:2 in Braunschweig: Kaiserslautern becomes a relegation candidate
Second-to-last Eintracht Braunschweig have dragged 1. FC Kaiserslautern deep into the relegation battle in the 2nd Bundesliga. The 2-1 (1:1) defeat at the Eintracht Stadium on Sunday was the sixth defeat in a row in a league match for a disappointing and harmless Kaiserslautern side. The supposed 2:2 in stoppage time was disallowed for offside.
The four-time German champions were still in third place in October. After eight games without a win, the 15th-placed team in the table went into the winter break just four points ahead of Braunschweig, who had been bottom of the table for a long time. The change of coach from Dirk Schuster to Dimitrios Grammozis has so far had no effect, at least in the league.
FCK took a deserved lead on Sunday thanks to an own goal by Robin Krauße in the 14th minute. However, the visitors only dominated the opening period in front of 20,627 spectators and then became far too passive. When Frenchman Rayan Philippe equalized in the 36th minute, the entire Lauter half of the match was open. The 2:1 through Johan Gomez (62) had already been preceded by two further great chances through the 22-year-old American (47th/59th).
Braunschweig deserved their success thanks to a dominant performance in the second half. Unlike FCK, they have now won three out of five games under their new coach Daniel Scherning.
