1:1 in Osnabrück: Kiel saves point in stoppage time

Holstein Kiel scored a late goal at VfL Osnabrück to stay in touch with the promotion places in the 2nd Bundesliga. Thanks to Benedikt Pichler's goal (90.+4), Kiel drew 1:1 (0:0:) with the relegation-threatened Lower Saxons on Saturday. Dave Gnaase (55th minute) was successful for Osnabrück.

Kiel had to cope with less support than planned: Before the match, occupants of three Kiel coaches had refused a police check and had to make the early journey home.

VfL initially started the game better, but an open game developed as a result. Osnabrück's Niklas Wiemann failed to beat Kiel goalkeeper Timon Weiner with a header that was too centrally placed after a corner (26'). At the other end, Steven Skrzybski challenged Lennart Grill with a shot from distance (32').

Osnabrück's Oumar Diakhite opened the second half by losing the ball as he moved backwards. Skrzybski found his master in Grill, but Shuto Machino could not get the rebound into the empty goal from close range (47'). Skrzybski tried again shortly afterwards, but Grill was again able to prevent him from going behind (50').

VfL then struck: Gnaase scored from the edge of the box. Kiel pressed for an equalizer, which substitute Pichler achieved with his acclaimed goal in stoppage time.

Despite the early departure of some Holstein Kiel fans due to a police check dispute, their team managed to secure a point in Bundesliga 2 against VfL Osnabrück.
