Women's Bundesliga - 1:0 against Werder: Wolfsburg women take advantage of Bayern slip-up

The VfL Wolfsburg women's soccer team took advantage of FC Bayern Munich's slip-up and knocked the German champions off top spot in the Bundesliga table in their final game of the year. The "Wolves" won 1:0 (0:0) against Werder Bremen on Monday evening and now go into the six-week winter break at the top of the table. The defending champions from Munich had only drawn 1-1 with newly promoted 1. FC Nürnberg the day before.

At Wolfsburg's AOK Stadium, Dominique Janssen scored the winning goal for VfL in the 83rd minute with a misplaced cross. Back in November, coach Tommy Stroot's team had won this northern duel in the DFB Cup 5:0. This time, VfL were even lucky: a goal scored in the 15th minute by the strong defending Bremen side was disallowed for foul play. Shortly after the break, Werder captain Michelle Ulbrich only hit the post (47').
