0:2 against Magdeburg: Osnabrück loses despite new coach
VfL Osnabrück's lack of success continues even after the change of coach. The team at the bottom of the 2nd Bundesliga lost their first game after parting company with Tobias Schweinsteiger on Saturday with a 0:2 (0:1) against 1. FC Magdeburg, who had previously been winless eight times in a row. Baris Atik (52nd minute) and Luca Schuler (71st) scored to end Magdeburg's negative run.
At VfL, 40-year-old Martin Heck sat on the bench as interim coach. He had previously worked as assistant to the popular promotion-winning coach Schweinsteiger. On Heck's debut, Osnabrück played with more commitment than in Schweinsteiger's last game in Braunschweig (2:3). However, VfL continued to lack any conviction and penetration in front of 15,741 spectators.
Magdeburg were better from the start. They could have taken the lead in the first half through Luc Castaignos' turning shot (28'). Atik's opening goal finally put paid to Osnabrück's belief that they could win. VfL are now without a win in seven second division games.
Despite the change in coach to Martin Heck, VfL Osnabrück suffered a 0:2 loss in their Bundesliga 2 game against 1st FC Magdeburg, extending their winless streak to seven matches in the league. VfL Osnabrück's new interim coach, Heck, had worked under popular promotion-winning coach Tobias Schweinsteiger as his assistant before taking the reins.
