- Windsurfer Erpenstein is the best in the world
Kiel native Lina Erpenstein remains the season's breakthrough star of the Windsurf Pro Tour PWA. After many years on the cusp of the top, the 27-year-old medical student secured her first World Cup victory in Chile in April. Now, she has defeated Iballa Moreno in the final of the "Wave" discipline at the World Cup in Tenerife, previously eliminating 23-time world champion Sarah-Quita Offringa from Aruba.
"I'm thrilled to have won at such a high-level event," said Lina Erpenstein, who impressed with her wave riding skills. "The jumps were the basics, but riding the waves was where I made the difference. I'm strong in both, but I could really show my skills in the waves."
Lina Erpenstein, who has been competing in the PWA since 2013, has boosted her chances of winning her first World Championship title with this victory. She leads the World Ranking at the halfway point of the season, ahead of Spanish riders Maria Morales Navarro and Alexia Kiefer Quintana.
Sylt "Mystery Box"
Whether Lina Erpenstein will achieve the big win this season will be determined at the five-star World Cup finals from September 27 to October 6 off Sylt and at the Aloha Classics in Hawaii at the end of October. Ahead of the Sylt event, Lina Erpenstein said, "Of course, I want to win, but I also want to stay focused heat by heat. Sylt is always a mystery box in terms of wind conditions compared to other events. Anything can happen."
Lina Erpenstein's victory over Iballa Moreno in the "Wave" discipline at Tenerife showcased her skills in varied disciplines, setting her apart from other competitors. In the upcoming Sylt "Mystery Box" event, Lina aims to maintain her focus and adapt to the unpredictable wind conditions, hoping to secure more victories and strengthen her lead in the World Rankings.
