Werder striker Ducksch nominated for national team
Julian Nagelsmann has called up Werder striker Marvin Ducksch to the national team for the last international matches of the year. The national coach nominated the 29-year-old attacker on Friday as one of two newcomers alongside goalkeeper Janis Blaswich of RB Leipzig for his home debut against Turkey on November 18 in Berlin and the match against Austria in Vienna three days later.
"He didn't have an easy start with Werder. But he's now back to a very good level and his performances have also stabilized Bremen again. That's always a good sign," Nagelsmann said of Ducksch. "If you score 20 goals at a top club, that's less highly rated than if you score a lot of goals or provide assists at a less top-rated club. He scores very good set pieces and has a good finish."
For Ducksch, the national team will be a reunion with his former Bremen strike partner Niclas Füllkrug, who left for Borussia Dortmund in the summer. "He knows Fülle very, very well. That's certainly another component that can help us," said Nagelsmann. "We simply want to have a second, third real striker on the way to the European Championship. And we have three, four, five candidates for that."
Ducksch also brings "a good degree of craziness, which we also need, especially when players come off the bench", explained the national coach. "Then that can be very, very valuable."
Ducksch's inclusion in the national team is a testament to his improved form with Werder Bremen, as stated by coach Nagelsmann, who leads the German National team, also known as the DFB. The DFB will face Turkey and Austria in their upcoming international matches.
