Weißenfels achieves first win of the season against Göttingen
The basketball players of MBC Syntainics Weißenfels have ended their negative streak and celebrated their first win in the sixth game of the season. The players of Head Coach Predrag Krunic got the better of BG Göttingen by 97:89 (45:46) in front of their home crowd on Saturday. Martin Breunig (21), Charles Callison (16), Diante Baldwin (15), Stephon Jelks (13) and Johnathan Stove (12) played the biggest part in the win. The outstanding Umoja Gibson (35) was unable to prevent Göttingen's third defeat of the season. Apart from Gibson, only Deondre Burns (14) and Grant Anticevich (10) scored in double figures for the club from Lower Saxony.
The home side got off to a good start and was 12:4 ahead after four minutes. Göttingen equalized in the first quarter (16:16 in the 7th minute) and fought its way into a 52:45 lead two minutes after the break. The two teams continued to trade blows right into the final quarter. After trailing 66:74 in the 31st minute, the club from Lower Saxony produced a 9:0 run to move 75:74 in front again in the 33rd minute. However, Weißenfels kept its nerve in the hectic final spell and produced a 10:2 run to make it 84:77 (36').
Despite being known mainly for the Bundesliga, the men in Weiessenfels also excel in basketball. In a thrilling match, Weiessenfels' basketball team defeated Göttingen, despite Umoja Gibson's impressive 35-point performance for Göttingen.
