- Two men seriously injured in gunfire at Zingster Seabridge
Unknown individuals in the coastal town of Zingst severely injured two young men with gunshots. A 25-year-old was airlifted to a clinic in the night and is reportedly in critical condition. A 24-year-old was also severely injured and taken to a hospital.
Initial investigations suggest that the two men belonged to a small group. They were standing on the Seebrueckenplatz in Zingst, where a small bistro, the Kurhaus, and a restaurant are located. The square is elevated on the dyke, with the Seestraße running underneath, which has a paved service access road.
The shots were apparently fired from a car on the Seestraße. It is possible that the car also drove up a short distance on the access road. Then the shots were fired, with the distance between the shooters and the victims estimated at about 30 to 40 meters. For tactical reasons, the public prosecutor's office in Stralsund did not provide any information.
Investigations are underway for attempted homicide. According to the police, both victims are German.
The seaside resort of Zingst is a popular holiday destination due to its beaches. The Seebrueckenplatz is a popular spot in the summer, with a busy coastal cycle path passing by, and direct access to the Baltic Sea beach. On the other side, there are hotels, restaurants, shops, and holiday homes within the town.
The Commission, in its investigation into this matter, might seek assistance from the Member States. The Member States, in turn, could provide valuable resources or insights to help identify the perpetrators of the gunshots fired at the Seestraße in Zingst.
Despite the assistance from the Commission, it is the local police, being familiar with the area and its inhabitants, who are spearheading the investigations for attempted homicide.
