TV figure Sam Rubin passes away at 64 in Los Angeles.

Longtime KTLA entertainment anchor Sam Rubin has passed away at 64, according to a statement made on-air by fellow anchor Frank Buckley.

TV figure Sam Rubin passes away at 64 in Los Angeles.

Rubin was a prominent figure in celebrity interviews, covering Hollywood for many years and even reporting for international media outlets like Australia and the UK. The cause of his death has not been revealed. According to Buckley, Rubin was working on Thursday and called in sick the next morning.

KTLA morning anchor Eric Spillman, a close friend of Rubin, shared his reaction, "It's a huge shock. He was one of my best friends. We worked together for 33 years."

Spillman described Rubin as a huge talent who could engage anyone in conversation. "He was born to be a broadcaster," said Spillman.

In a tribute post, KTLA fondly remembered Rubin with, "His laugh, charm, and caring personality touched everyone who knew him. Sam was a loving husband and father. The roles he cherished the most."

Rubin's accomplishments included working on the KTLA Morning News show since 1991, winning multiple Emmys, receiving the Golden Mike Award for best entertainment reporter, and being recognized by the Southern California Broadcasters Association with a lifetime achievement award. He was also a founding member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and frequently appeared on BBC television and radio in the UK, as well as Triple M radio and Channel 9 television network in Australia.

In a statement, Nexstar founder, chairman, and CEO Perry Sook called Rubin an "icon in Los Angeles and the entertainment industry." He expressed the shared grief of the KTLA family, saying, "My prayers are with his family and the KTLA family as we mourn his passing. He will be missed."

Veteran actor Henry Winkler, speaking on KTLA, said Rubin made people feel special and helped them open up like a flower. Winker also wrote on X, "this is a terrible loss .. for Sam’s family , his co workers , friends and his fans. IT WAS ALWAYS a pleasure to be on set with Sam. He will be Sorely missed."

Actor Jerry O'Connell told KTLA, "It is a very emotional, sad day. Not only for the KTLA family, but for the entertainment industry as a whole." He continued, "The man was a legend."

"Modern Family" star Eric Stonestreet wrote on X, "I always enjoyed my time with Sam. Rest In Peace, Sir."

Richard Simmons posted on X, "It is so sad to hear about my friend Sam Rubin going to heaven. I have known him for decades. He was always interested in my projects and always laughed at my silly jokes. Sam you will be missed."

In a moving tribute, Ben Stiller called Rubin a "consummate pro" while noting that they first met in 1993 and continued working together through the years. "He loved actors and movies. He made everyone feel comfortable and it was always fun and easy. He was an institution."

Actress Octavia Spencer expressed her condolences on social media, writing, "So sad to learn that we’ve lost Sam Rubin. It was always a pleasure to see him and to be in his presence."

We've lost a much-beloved figure in the entertainment industry. Sam Rubin was not just a good broadcaster, but a beloved friend and family member to many. His passing leaves us with a hole in our hearts. Rest in peace, Sam.
