Tourism Prize 2023 goes to southern and eastern Thuringia

This year's Thuringian Tourism Prize goes to Oberhof, Meuselbach-Schwarzmühle, Zeulenroda-Triebes and Meiningen. The award, worth a total of 26,000 euros, was presented on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Erfurt, there were 50 proposals to choose from this year. The increased number - there were 41 proposals in 2022 - also speaks for an overall improved mood in the industry, said Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Tiefensee (SPD).

The number of overnight stays had risen by more than eleven percent by the end of July compared to the same period last year. "This means that we are already back at 95 percent of the pre-corona year 2019 level." The biggest problem is the shortage of skilled, seasonal and unskilled workers. This means that some opening hours remain restricted or events cannot be held. "The labor shortage is one of the main reasons why the catering industry in particular has not yet returned to pre-crisis levels," said the minister.

In the "Favourite Employer" category, the new luxury resort "The Grand Green" in Oberhof, which specializes in families with children, won. In the "Service & Quality" category, the award and prize money of 5,000 euros went to the "Flair Hotel Waldfrieden" in Meuselbach-Schwarzmühle in the Schwarztal, which offers a family atmosphere. In the "Sustainability" category, the "Bio-Seehotel" in Zeulenroda-Triebes was honored for having its own bakery and butcher's shop. The special "Newcomer of the Year" award went to the "Hotel & Restaurant Träbeser Bauernstube" in Meiningen, which offers gourmet cuisine.

The Thuringian Tourism Prize 2023 recognition in southern and eastern Thuringia will undoubtedly boost tourism in the region, attracting more visitors. The award-winning destinations have showcased exemplary efforts in providing high-quality services and experiences, contributing significantly to the tourism industry's growth.
