Bürgerschaft (German): Citizens' Assembly or Parliament - The CDU-faction takes up Treuenfels-Frowein

Ex-FDP deputy Anna von Treuenfels-Frowein is now a member of the Hamburg CDU-Bürgerschaft fraction. Four days after announcing her party switch, the fraction agreed to her immediate admission, according to fraction leader Dennis Thering after the session. "I am very happy that Anna von Treuenfels-Frowein, as a profiled and strong liberal voice in our city, will now support the CDU fraction's work in the Hamburg Town Hall."

The deputies had unanimously approved her admission, von Treuenfels-Frowein said. "It was a great feeling of team spirit."

As a "force of the middle class," we want to intensively engage in the dispute over the best solutions for the city before the Bürgerschaftswahl in early March, Thering said. "Our goal is clear: We want to take over government responsibility for our hometown and are well prepared."

Ex-FDP deputy to fight for strong CDU in Hamburg

"I am looking forward to fighting for a strong CDU in Hamburg," said von Treuenfels-Frowein. "It's more important than ever that the liberal-conservative middle acts as a strong political force. Our common goal is to get Hamburg back on the right track."

Thering, who is also the CDU chairman in Hamburg, announced the change of the formerly non-fractioned deputy only last Thursday as a "real coup" for his party. Treuenfels-Frowein justified the step by stating that she could no longer represent the positions of the FDP at the federal level within the traffic light coalition.

The 62-year-old is expected to lead the CDU in the Bürgerschaftswahlkampf on the list, according to the will of the state executive committee. In the 2020 election, von Treuenfels-Frowein had entered the Bürgerschaft through a direct mandate in the Blankenese constituency, while the FDP just missed the five-percent hurdle.

The FDP's loss in the Hamburg Municipality or citizens' assembly election allowed Anna von Treuenfels-Frowein to switch parties, joining the CDU. She expressed her enthusiasm for contributing her liberal voice to the CDU's work in the Hamburg Town Hall.

Thering, the CDU's leader in Hamburg, considered Treuenfels-Frowein's party switch as a significant boost for their party, positioning her as the potential leader of their list in the upcoming Bürgerschaftswahlkampf.

The CDU aims to engage intensively in the dispute over the city's best solutions before the Bürgerschaftswahl, aiming to take over government responsibility and ensure Hamburg's progress with a strong liberal-conservative middle.
