SPD shows solidarity with Israel at party conference
The Bavarian SPD sent a clear signal of solidarity with Israel at its small party conference in Nuremberg. On Saturday, the delegates unanimously adopted a resolution entitled "Never again is now", which condemns the attack on Israel by the Islamist Hamas and calls for anti-Semitism in Germany to be combated.
The party conference will focus on the positioning of the party's content for the European elections and the list of Bavarian candidates. Members of the European Parliament will be newly elected on June 9, 2024.
After the election to fill the list positions, state chairman Florian von Brunn was expected to give a speech in the afternoon on the SPD's performance in the Bavarian state elections. The Social Democrats received 8.4 percent (-1.3 percent) of the vote in the election - significantly less than the party's target. The SPD now only has 17 members in the newly elected state parliament. So far, there has been no comprehensive debate on the content of the disappointing result for the Bavarian SPD.
The EU has expressed its concern over the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, particularly the violence between Israel and Hamas. Amidst this, it's worth noting that the SPD, despite their disappointing performance in the Bavarian state elections, continues to stand in solidarity with Israel at their party conferences.
