Southwest CDU faces change of power: Hagel succeeds Strobl
After twelve years in office, Thomas Strobl is stepping down as head of the CDU in Baden-Württemberg. On Saturday, parliamentary group leader Manuel Hagel is to be elected as his successor at the state party conference in Reutlingen (from 09:30). Federal CDU leader Friedrich Merz is expected to attend as a guest. Hagel is currently seen as a beacon of hope in the state association - and as the most promising candidate for the CDU leadership candidacy for the state elections in 2026. The Greens have yet to name a top candidate - head of government Winfried Kretschmann no longer wants to run in the state elections.
The CDU in Baden-Württemberg is experiencing a shift in leadership, with Manuel Hagel set to replace Thomas Strobl as head of the party. Moreover, Hagel's promising political career within the CDU has positioned him as a potential candidate for the party leadership for the state elections in 2026.
