Seven injured in wrong-way driver accident with cars on Avus

A wrong-way driver caused an accident on Berlin's Avus highway on Sunday night, injuring seven people. Three vehicles were involved in the accident, the fire department announced on Sunday. The police were unable to say how seriously the people were injured in all cases. One man was able to leave the hospital after outpatient treatment, while one woman was admitted with a broken leg, it said.

Because it was suspected that the 39-year-old wrong-way driver was under the influence of alcohol, the police arranged for a blood sample to be taken. His driver's license was also confiscated.

The wrong-way driver collided head-on with the car of a 22-year-old at the Avus exit Hüttenweg. The 20-year-old driver of another oncoming car was unable to brake, drove between the two cars and collided with them. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. The fire department alone was deployed with 50 firefighters.

The police advised motorists to avoid the area due to the ongoing emergency on the Avus, as traffic was heavily affected. In such situations, it's crucial to follow alternative routes to avoid delays and accidents.
