Nagelmann brings in next newcomer: Prömel for Nmecha

Felix Nmecha has to withdraw from the international matches. Instead of the Dortmund player, Grischa Prömel will travel to the DFB selection. Julian Nagelsmann is thus testing the next newcomer for his suitability for the European Championship.

Nagelmann brings in next newcomer: Prömel for Nmecha

Julian Nagelsmann had to make another personnel change before the national soccer team's first training session. In place of Felix Nmecha, the national coach nominated Grischa Prömel from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Monday for the international matches against Turkey in Berlin on Saturday and against Austria in Vienna three days later.

Dortmund's Nmecha had to withdraw at short notice due to "slight problems in the hip area", as the DFB announced. Robin Gosens and Malick Thiaw had previously withdrawn. Both will become fathers in the coming days and therefore wanted to stay with their families. Nagelsmann had called up David Raum from RB Leipzig to replace Gosens.

The national coach now has 26 players in his squad for the last international matches of the year. The fitness of Mats Hummels (back) and Leon Goretzka (muscular problems), who came to the meeting point in Frankfurt despite their complaints, is still unclear. The first training session at the DFB Campus is scheduled for Tuesday (11.00 am). The move to Berlin for the Turkey game in the Olympic Stadium will follow on Friday.

Alongside Marvin Ducksch (29) and Janis Blaswich (32), who have been called up for the first time, his Hoffenheim colleague Oliver Baumann (33) and Robert Andrich (29) from Bayer Leverkusen, Prömel (28) is the fifth professional in the current squad who has never played for the senior team.

However, the midfielder has a successful DFB CV. In 2016, the former junior international was one of the silver medal winners at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He has also been in the national team's sights. However, a broken ankle almost exactly a year ago put him on ice for a long time.

Grischa Prömel, now part of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's squad, has been selected by the DFB national team coach as a replacement for Felix Nmecha due to hip issues. Prömel has a history with the national team, having won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, despite a broken ankle halting his progress for a significant period.
