Maya Rudolph shines as the stellar 'mother' in captivating 'SNL' opening monologue.

"Maya Rudolph, a former 'SNL' star who now graced the stage for a third time on Saturday, was joined by cast members Bowen Yang and Sarah Sherman following a humorous Mother's Day cold open where the actual mothers of 'SNL' cast members made funny remarks.

Rudolph, who mentioned her four kids during her speech, was praised by her co-stars for her hosting duties. Yang called her 'Mother', while Sherman hailed her as a 30 Rock legend.

Kenan Thompson then transformed the monologue into a ballroom-inspired event, addressing Rudolph as the 'Mother of the House of Rockefeller'. When the cameras returned to Rudolph, she was dressed in a tight, shimmering black bodysuit, accompanied by a team of dancers in lavish attire. They began showcasing voguing moves while she proceeded to rap about being a 'mother' to everyone.

In the midst of her hilarious freestyle, Rudolph honored different types of mothers, including stepmothers, godmothers, surrogates, dance moms, and even 'Octomoms'. When Chloe Fineman brought out a little dog, she questioned if 'dog moms' were included. Rudolph responded, 'What about them? And honey, that's not a dog. That's a bitch.'

Throughout her performance, she mentioned celebrated 'SNL' skits and characters such as the Coneheads and Mary Katherine Gallagher, as well as some of her standout impersonations like that of Donatella Versace. She also incorporated classic lines from 'mom's' repertoire, such as, 'I will also turn this car around if you don't stop hitting your sister.'

Maya Rudolph featured on 'SNL' from 2000 to 2007, occasionally making guest appearances since her departure from the show. Her most recent return was in December, where she starred alongside fellow alums, Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig, in a hysterical Abba rerun. Prior to this, she had hosted the program in 2012 and 2021.

This week's musical guests were Vampire Weekend, while Jake Gyllenhaal will host the final episode of the 49th season next weekend, featuring Sabrina Carpenter as the performer. The show will celebrate its 50th anniversary in the near future."
