Maren Kroymann deplores "beauty Darwinism" in the industry
Grimme Award winner Maren Kroymann has criticized what she sees as the boring image of women in the acting industry. "When we're younger, we're the women who are fuckable and arouse the erotic interest of men. Then we are mothers. Then there's a gap in the menopause, when there are few roles. After that comes the grandma, gray-haired or not, these are often reduced roles that don't have much of a life of their own," the 74-year-old told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND/Wednesday).
This "beauty Darwinism", as Kroymann calls it, really bothers her and is very widespread. You only have to look at the pictures of red carpets. "We outdo each other in being thin, being beautiful, being naked. That doesn't reflect what's happening in our heads, with our maturity, in our development, that we are creative and strong, can give impetus and change all kinds of things. That is not yet adequately reflected in films." She said about her own age that she is happy - even with wrinkles. "When women realize that, despite all the physical disadvantages, it can be a great time, perhaps at some point the obsessive need to be smoothed out will disappear."
Kroymann has starred in many successful films and series. She became known to a large audience at the end of the 1980s as a pastor's wife in "Oh Gott, Herr Pfarrer" (ARD). She later had her own satirical show, "Nachtschwester Kroymann" (ARD). She won several awards with her sketch comedy show "Kroymann" (ARD).
