Mainz's Onisiwo ends career in Austria's national team

Bundesliga professional Karim Onisiwo is ending his career with the Austrian national soccer team. This was announced by the association on Friday. "This step is not easy for me, I was happy about every nomination and enjoyed playing for the national team. There are sporting and private reasons for my resignation, which I have discussed with the team manager in recent weeks," said Onisiwo, who made a total of 24 appearances for the national team and scored one goal.

The 31-year-old FSV Mainz 05 striker is thus also taking the opportunity to play in the European Championship in his adopted country of Germany. "Karim told me some time ago that he was thinking about ending his career with the national team. I had open and honest communication with him at all times," said team boss Ralf Rangnick.

In qualifying Group F, Austria and Belgium have already punched their ticket for the tournament (June 14 to July 14, 2024).

Karim Onisiwo, a key player in Bundesliga, has decided to wrap up his career with Austria's national soccer team. Despite scoring one goal in 24 appearances, Onisiwo will no longer represent Austria in international soccer matches due to both sporting and personal reasons.
