Los Angeles Police Department and federal officials are probing the origin of ketamine linked to Matthew Perry's demise.

On October 28, 2023, cops in Los Angeles found beloved actor Matthew Perry unresponsive in his pool at his Pacific Palisades home. CNN later shared that the LA Medical Examiner's office reported Perry had passed away due to acute effects of ketamine and subsequently drowning. He was 54.

The renowned actor's death was a high-profile case, so the LAPD assigned their Robbery-Homicide Division to lead the initial investigation, following it up with exploring the source of the ketamine after the autopsy report came out in December. This happened almost two months after Perry's unfortunate passing. Captain Williams spoke about the situation, not giving away too many details, but hinting at a potential criminal investigation.

“If we were to take a hypothetical stance, there may be potential for criminal culpability based on what the investigation uncovers. However, we're not there yet,” he said. The investigation is focused on figuring out when and where Perry obtained the ketamine, and who provided it to him.

Neither the US Drug Enforcement Administration nor their spokesperson Rosa Valle-Lopez commented on the investigation, instead deferring queries to the LAPD.

The autopsy also added that Perry "was reported to be receiving ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety." However, his last known ketamine therapy session took place a week and a half before he was found dead, well beyond the time it would still be present in his system.
