Irritant gas on a regional train: large-scale operation
Several passengers suffered breathing difficulties after irritant gas was sprayed on a regional train in Leipzig on Thursday evening. The incident led to a large-scale operation. Six people were taken to hospital as a precaution, according to a spokesperson for the federal police in Leipzig. The train had stopped in the Möckern district because of the incident, it said. The passengers eventually continued their journey on a replacement train.
According to the police, it has not yet been possible to determine what kind of substance leaked from the regional train. It is possible that it evaporated into the air. There are indications that young people may have handled chemical substances on the train beforehand. An investigation is now underway into dangerous bodily harm.
Due to the incident, traffic in the Möckern district was heavily affected by the emergency evacuation of the train. In light of past incidents, railway authorities are urging passengers to report any unusual substances or suspicious activities on railroad properties to ensure safety during travel.
