In a recent development, the Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia unveils a strategy to combat knife-related violence.

Rising knife attacks are prevalent in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Interior Minister, Reul, unveils a strategic 10-point approach to curb this escalating aggression, which encompasses potential penalties like revoking a felon's driver's license.

Minister of Interior for North Rhine-Westphalia, Herbert Reul (CDU), wants to combat knife violence in the region with a swift ten-point action plan. Some of his suggested actions include prohibiting weapon carry for repeat offenders and creating an additional weapon-free zone in Hamm. Furthermore, revoking driver's licenses could become a penalty for individuals involved in knife-related incidents.

As per recent data, public space knife violence in NRW saw an alarming surge of about 43%, reaching 3,540 cases last year. Regrettably, this led to 15 tragic deaths. An eye-opening 94% of the suspects were male, with 55% being domestic and 45% being non-residents. Approximately 40% of the offenders were juveniles and young adults.

The increase in knife violence in North Rhine-Westphalia, with 43% more cases last year and 15 fatalities, has prompted calls for aggressive action. Within this context, the Minister's proposal to address 'Violence with knives' includes stricter penalties for repeat offenders and expanding weapon-free zones.
