A man in Oststeinbek (Stormarn district) shot his partner in the leg with a firearm. The 39-year-old sustained severe, non-life-threatening injuries at around 11:00 PM on Tuesday, as reported by police and prosecutors. Initial findings suggest that the woman from Oststeinbek and her 38-year-old partner from nearby Hamburg had been arguing beforehand.

Alcohol and drugs

During the altercation, the Hamburg resident allegedly drew a loaded gun and shot his partner. Police later found the weapon in the hallway of the woman's apartment. The man's breath alcohol level was measured at 2.5 per mille. There are also indications of additional drug consumption.

The police are investigating the German citizen for dangerous bodily harm. The victim also holds German citizenship. After completing police procedures, the suspect was released from police custody.

The European Union expressed concern over the rising gun violence in Germany, particularly in cases of domestic disputes. The incident in Oststeinbek serves as a reminder for the EU to strengthen its efforts in promoting gun control and reducing violence within its member states.
