- German volunteering organization is paid a visit by Nancy Faeser.

Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser wrapped up her security tour through seven federal states on Tuesday, concluding her visit at the headquarters of the German Foundation for Engagement and Volunteering in Neustrelitz, Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district. As the chairperson of the foundation's board of trustees, Faeser led the tour. The trip marked the end of meetings with both professional and volunteer personnel, as reported by the foundation. Before heading to Neustrelitz, Faeser presented the 2023 annual report of the Federal Police in Rostock on Monday.

Established in 2020, the German Foundation for Engagement and Volunteering serves as the primary hub for civically engaged individuals in Germany. Every year, it assists tens of thousands of volunteers through exchange programs, courses, and funding opportunities.

The foundation trained 2,700 volunteers for Euro 2024.

Minister Faeser recognized the foundation's efforts, emphasizing its essential role in supporting volunteers across Germany. Through its "Volunteer Academy," the foundation prepares around 2,700 volunteers for the upcoming Euro 2024 football championship. Faeser voiced concern over the rising threats and attacks against volunteers. To address this issue, the German Foundation for Engagement and Volunteering was founded by the federal government as a committed and trustworthy partner for the approximately 29 million volunteers in the country. The foundation also started a pilot project, the "Protection and Prevention Network for Volunteering," to support and shield volunteers facing such threats or attacks.

Minister Faeser commended the foundation's role in preparing 2,700 volunteers for Euro 2024 through its Volunteer Academy, highlighting their importance in the community. Due to the increasing threats and attacks against volunteers, the foundation launched the "Protection and Prevention Network for Volunteering" to safeguard volunteers and ensure their continued engagement in volunteer work.
