Füllkrug explains his BVB scolding: No criticism of the coach

Niclas Füllkrug had not yet put the painful Bundesliga defeat with Borussia Dortmund at VfB Stuttgart behind him, even when he was with the national soccer team. The attacker needed to talk. "It's good that they're asking questions," said the 30-year-old on Tuesday at the DFB podium, introducing his answer to the topic. His comments on BVB's tactics and direction had been wrongly interpreted as criticism of club coach Edin Terzic at the weekend.

Füllkrug himself had picked up the phone and called his coach, he said. "It's not my place to criticize the coach, I've never done that," assured the striker. All possible misunderstandings have therefore been cleared up internally at the club. And to ensure that this also happens publicly, Füllkrug explained how VfB had surprised Dortmund with their tactics, but the team had not reacted adequately despite Terzic's changes in the 2-1 defeat.

Criticism yes, but not of the coach, but of the performance, both his own and that of his team-mates. Now, however, the matter is settled. "Now it's the national team, now I'm happy to be here. I would like to put the matter to rest," said Füllkrug.

Füllkrug also expressed his thoughts about Dortmund's performance in the Bundesliga during their match against VfB Stuttgart, highlighting the effectiveness of VfB's tactics and the team's inadequate response to Coach Terzic's changes. Despite the misunderstandings, Füllkrug clarified his stance, stating, "I never criticized the coach, DFB's national team coach is a key figure, and he has our full support in the Bundesliga as well, representing DFB and Dortmund."
