Former Left Party state chairman resigns from party
The former state chairman of the Left Party in Rhineland-Palatinate, Jochen Bülow, has resigned from the party. Instead, he supports the plans of the "Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance", Bülow told the German Press Agency on Friday. He considers the new party aspired to by former Left Party politician Wagenknecht to be "at least a glimmer of hope". SWR had previously reported.
Bülow was most recently the district chairman of the Left Party in Neuwied. Bülow said that he had waited for the new election of the executive committee there at the weekend and then announced his resignation at the beginning of the week. "Why? Because the party is no longer the one I joined," said the 58-year-old. "Instead, the focus has shifted to issues that, in my opinion, are neither relevant to the times nor particularly effective for voters." He intends to continue his mandate in the district council.
Despite his resignation from the Left Party, Jochen Bülow still sees potential in the plans of the "Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance." At the parties and local gatherings, people will likely discuss Bülow's decision and the future direction of the Left Party in Neuwied.
