Fire in prison detention room: two people slightly injured
A prisoner in the Lübeck correctional facility (JVA) has set fire to his mattress in his cell. Prison staff discovered the fire and alerted the fire department, the prison announced on Friday. The prisoner was rescued from the room on Thursday thanks to the courageous intervention of a prison officer.
The 39-year-old prisoner and a prison employee involved in the firefighting work were taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. However, both left the hospital the same evening, according to the prison. The 39-year-old is reportedly in prison for burglary.
The emergency response to the prison fire included calls to the justice system for potential legal consequences. Despite the fire and smoke, the prison system prioritizes addressing emergencies like fires promptly, as demonstrated in this incident.
