Elderly passenger passes away due to severe in-flight turbulence
While traveling from London to Singapore, an aircraft experiences powerful turbulence. This severe disturbance leads to the unfortunate death of a 73-year-old British man and injuries to more than 30 other passengers. Singapore Airlines shared the unfortunate news that during their flight to Singapore, a single individual perished, and at least 30 others sustained injuries due to the intense turbulence. According to officials at Bangkok Airport, the deceased individual was likely a 73-year-old British national who may have suffered a heart attack connected to the turbulent conditions on board. The airline sent out a heartfelt message via Facebook, stating they extend their deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
The plane involved in the incident, a Boeing 777-300ER, carried a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members. After leaving London Heathrow Airport, the flight encountered significant turbulence, forcing Singapore Airlines to reroute the jet to the capital of Thailand. The unfortunate incident occurred as tropical storms raged in the area, with the plane dropping from 38,000 feet to 31,000 feet over Myanmar's western coast in a matter of minutes, a drastic descent captured by aviation monitoring site Flightradar24.
Images circulating online showed the loose cutlery and food items that popped out of their containers, leading to a messy scene in the aisles. Medical aid is in the process of being provided by both the airline and local authorities in Bangkok. A Singapore Airlines representative claimed their main focus is to serve and support all passengers and crew members who were on board.
