Demi Moore discloses her "extremely exposed" acting feat in "The Substance" by appearing entirely nude.
At a press conference during the Cannes Film Festival, Moore, 61, talked about portraying an older actress who uses a substance to transform into a "younger, better version of herself," represented by Margaret Qualley, 29.
The horror comedy features Moore in fully exposed scenes, which she explained how they approached. She was accompanied at the press conference by co-star Dennis Quaid and the film's director, Coralie Fargeat.
"From the beginning, it was clear the level of vulnerability and rawness needed for this story," Moore mentioned. "It was a very daunting experience that required a lot of openness and talks about our intentions."
In Qualley, who didn't attend the press conference, Moore stated, "I found someone who was an excellent partner and I felt very comfortable with." They "shared a lot of humor during those moments about how ridiculous certain situations were" concerning the nude scenes.
Moore also responded to being perceived as "canceled" in Hollywood due to her age. "I don't see things that way," she said. "I believe it's not about what's happening around you, but how you see and deal with the situation."
"I don't consider myself or the situation as a victim," Moore asserted.
Quaid shared that previously, actresses were "thrown to the curb" once they turned 40, but that's not the case anymore.

Moore discussed the importance of entertainment in her role, stating, "The raw and vulnerable nature of the story truly showcases the power of entertainment to challenge norms and provoke thought."
Furthermore, she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to push boundaries in the entertainment industry, saying, "It's an honor to contribute to a genre that can inspire change and break stereotypes, ultimately enriching the vast entertainment landscape."
