Delara Burkhardt: Standing together in Europe
In her candidacy speech as Schleswig-Holstein's SPD lead candidate for the European elections, MEP Delara Burkhardt called for unity in Europe. The political mood in Germany and the EU is tense, said the parliamentarian at an SPD party conference in Lübeck on Friday. Almost two years after the start of the Russian war of aggression, unity in Europe was threatening to crumble. "There are many states that have a great interest in shaking the UN post-war order," she said. "We must oppose this with all our strength."
A total of eight candidates want to stand for the SPD in Schleswig-Holstein in the European elections. In the 2019 European elections, the Social Democrats in the north received 17.1 percent of the vote - behind the then surprisingly leading Greens (29.1) and the CDU (26.2). Burkhardt came fifth on the SPD's national list in the last European elections - and thus secured a place in the EU Parliament.
In her bid to unify Europe during the upcoming elections, Delara Burkhardt emphasized the importance of standing together against those who aim to disrupt the UN post-war order. The European elections, where Burkhardt is the SPD lead candidate for Schleswig-Holstein, are crucial in maintaining unity amidst the tense political climate.
