Clues to murder 33 years ago after "Aktenzeichen XY..."

The police have received around 40 tips from the public about the murder of a 22-year-old woman in Middle Franconia 33 years ago. "That shows us that the case is still alive," said police spokesman Marc Siegl on Thursday. Two investigators had presented the case on Wednesday evening on the ZDF program "Aktenzeichen XY..." and asked for information.

A walker had discovered the body of 22-year-old Claudia Obermeier in August 1990 in a wooded area in Röthenbach an der Pegnitz. According to the police, she was the victim of a sexual offense and was strangled by an unknown male perpetrator.

The criminal investigation department recently reopened the murder case after a DNA trace was found on evidence from the crime scene thanks to modern analysis methods. According to the police, a comparison with the DNA analysis file at the Federal Criminal Police Office revealed that the murderer could have left DNA material at a crime scene again 22 years later: during a burglary in a building shell in Nuremberg. The investigators are now hoping that the tools and fuses stolen in the process could lead them to the perpetrator.

After the murder case was featured on "Aktenzeichen XY..." on ZDF, there was an increase in tips from the public about the 33-year-old unsolved crime. The media's involvement in the case through television broadcasts highlights the ongoing interest in the unsolved crime.
