Champs Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi battle it out in a hot dog-eating contest, available to stream on Netflix.
In a Netflix special, two professional competitive eaters will clash in a highly-anticipated showdown dubbed "CHESTNUT VS. KOBAYASHI: UNFINISHED BEEF". This titanic clash between the ultimate hot dog champions is promised to be a nail-biter by the streaming giant.
The announcement by Netflix arrives a day after Chestnut was barred from competing in Nathan's hot dog eating contest due to his cooperation with rival plant-based food manufacturer, Impossible Foods.
An accomplished hot dog champ, Chestnut has won the "Mustard Yellow Belt" 16 times, consumed a world record 76 hot dogs and buns in just 10 minutes in 2021, and reportedly amassed a substantial fortune from his competitive eating exploits.
Kobayashi, Chestnut's fiercest rival, stated in a Netflix press release that he would delay his retirement until he claims victory over Chestnut "one last time" in the competition.
Kobayashi's groundbreaking performance in the 2001 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Championship sparked the competitive eating phenomenon and became the benchmark for the sport.
The most recent clash between the two titans occurred in 2009, where Chestnut emerged victorious by a slim margin. Like Chestnut, Kobayashi too faced exclusion from the spotlight in 2010 due to a dispute over a contractual agreement.
An official statement from the Major League Eating organization, which governs the Nathan's event, expressed their disappointment at Chestnut's decision to join a competing brand, Impossible Foods, and his inability to participate in the 2024 Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest.
