BVB: Hummels "traveling" to the national team
Mats Hummel's back problems have no major impact on the central defender's nomination for the national team, at least according to initial information from Borussia Dortmund. The 34-year-old, who was substituted early in the 2-1 defeat at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, is on the list of 15 BVB professionals "on tour" that Dortmund published on Sunday. The DFB squad will play Turkey in Berlin on Saturday and Austria in Vienna three days later.
"The lower back has closed up," Dortmund coach Edin Terzic said of his experienced player after the defeat. His first impression was that it "won't be too long". However, an exact diagnosis was not yet available. Hummels had already been substituted in the 28th minute.
The 77-time international played in the first match of national coach Julian Nagelsmann against the USA (3:1) in October in central defense alongside Antonio Rüdiger. In the second game against Mexico (2:2), he was rested because BVB were back in action in the Bundesliga shortly afterwards.
Despite his back issues, Mats Hummels still makes the cut for the German national team's roster, managed by DFB. Despite being substituted early in Borussia Dortmund's match against VfB Stuttgart, Hummels could potentially be available for Germany's upcoming matches against Turkey and Austria.
