- Body still in ruins in Kröv <unk> Hotel must be partially demolished

After the hotel collapse in Kröv, demolition work to recover the second body has begun. A wrecking excavator with an extra-long arm started at the gable side of the building, where the police say the greatest risk of collapse exists. The heavy machinery from a specialized company will then proceed step by step.

When the man's body will be recovered is still unclear, a police spokesperson said. The demolition is necessary because the rescue services cannot safely retrieve the deceased otherwise. He is located in the most at-risk area. The man is believed to be the hotel owner.

The accident site was cordoned off within a 150-meter radius for the demolition work. Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the expected increased dust levels, the police said. An asbestos contamination cannot be ruled out.

Hotel in Kröv remains at risk of collapse

In the Moselle town's hotel, a entire floor collapsed late on Tuesday evening. Two people died, and one dead woman has already been recovered. Seven injured people were rescued from the rubble after several hours.

An expert had assessed the situation on Wednesday and recommended demolition to safely retrieve the bodies. The building remains at high risk of collapse, the police reported.

The demolition team is focusing on the most dangerous area, where the second body is presumed to be located, due to other parts of the building being at risk of collapse. The decision to demolish the hotel was made following the assessment of an expert, as other methods of recovery would be too risky.
