Film to be screened. - The iconic house used in the movie "Home Alone," starring Kevin, is available for purchase.
Kevin, a 8-year-old boy, is kids-left-behind-at-home in a suburb named Chicago, Illinois, during Christmas time. His family mistakenly goes on a trip to France, and he's entrusted with guarding the house. The movie, "Kevin - Home Alone" (1990), became a hit holiday classic for more than 3 decades. The house featured in the movie, known as the McAllister residence, has caught the attention of many tourists and "Home Alone" fans.
The current owners no longer wish to deal with the continuous influx of tourists, and have put the house up for sale after 12 years of living in it. It now has a hefty 5.25 million dollar pricetag. The owners bought the 530sqm home in 2012 for $1.585m and underwent significant renovations.
The villa's price tag
A report by the Wall Street Journal states that the current residents have grown accustomed to the constant visitors. However, they've chosen to sell the striking brick house. They acquired the 1920s-built home with 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms on a property measuring half an acre, 20 kilometers from the heart of the city.
The owners have modified or restored certain components of the house's iconic appearance. Still, they've retained the front door and the staircase where Kevin slides down on the sled. The house contains a home theater and a massive indoor sports hall with a basketball court.
Differences from the movie
The couple had already taken advantage of their property's popularity a few years before. In December 2021, they rented out the original location on the booking platform Airbnb.
