Peugeot E-3008 now achieves a range suitable for everyday use

The range of Stellantis' cost-conscious electric cars from Peugeot was previously rather limited. The Peugeot E-3008 now presents itself as significantly larger and addresses "range concerns" as a result. It also stands out optically with its edgy style.

Peugeot is electrifying its model range from the bottom up. With the electric compact SUV E-3008, one of the core series is now on board. And it can finally convince in terms of range. Another important aspect, however, has been somewhat neglected by the French.

The small cars E-208 and E-3008 are good for short and medium distances, but the E-3008 takes it a step further: The net 73 kWh large battery should cover 524 standard kilometers, enough for the trip from Cologne to Paris. At least, if one travels with maximum highway speed and mild temperatures. Those who include Autobahn sections come up to roughly 400 kilometers. As with electric cars, it is advisable not to exceed the 120-km/h mark too often, as otherwise the good consumption of 17 to 18 kWh per 100 kilometers (early summer) cannot be achieved.

The joy of travel is somewhat dampened by rather mediocre charging speed. In theory, the Peugeot pulls a decent 160 kW from the power grid at the fast charger, but in practice it was significantly less. Those who charge at a wall box or normal charging station benefit from the series-standard three-phase on-board charger, which delivers 11 kW. This is enough to charge a completely empty battery overnight.

The Peugeot E-3008 is 4.54 meters long.

Attractive Exterior

The drive and battery are housed in an attractive shell. With its edgy design, Peugeot has found a form language that stands out from the current uniformity in the electric SUV class. The electric 3008 combines this with a popular coupe-style rear end, which unfortunately falls a bit short of the elegance of a real two-door.

The very modern-looking interior can really be seen, which also convinces in terms of practicality and ergonomics, provided one's own physiognomy fits the small steering wheel - which, according to non-representative surveys, is not always the case.

The rear is designed in a modern coupé style.

Peugeot has saved some finesse in the interior when it comes to material quality, but the French have managed to hide the hard plastic so skillfully with fabrics and decorative elements that it hardly stands out.

A little more finesse would have been able to handle the conventional steel chassis better, which at low speeds comes across as somewhat stiff-legged and only really delivers comfort and sovereignty on long stretches. The steering feels synthetic, as it does in many electric cars.

The motor with its 157 kW/210 PS is sufficiently powerful, but, as is usual with Stellantis mother company Peugeot, it has received a rather restrained power delivery programming. This helps consumption and controllability in city traffic, but in combination with the rather unresponsive rest of the vehicle, it doesn't exactly result in outstanding driving pleasure. Those who prefer something more dynamic can switch to the clearly distinguishable Sport mode, but then achieve less range.

The interior of the Peugeot E-3008 has a very modern look.

Starting from 48,650 Euros to own.

Price-wise, the electric compact SUV from Peugeot starts at 48,650 Euro and is 9,400 Euro more expensive than the alternatively offered mild hybrid. The equipment in the "Allure" base level is already quite good. For those who prefer a sportier look, the "GT" variant, which is around 5,000 Euro more expensive, is the choice. It then offers a rear camera and blind spot assistant, which are useful given the less than ideal visibility of the bodywork. The large infotainment system with a concave screen and the best routing in a Stellantis electric vehicle are also on board.

A car for everyone is the electric Peugeot, considering its price, it may not be for everyone yet. However, in almost every other respect, it is mass-market friendly. The battery capacity can convince in practice - it should suffice for most users for 363 days a year. And in many cases, even on the two vacation days. "Range anxiety" should no longer be a concern for electric car drivers, and the 3008 now also takes care of "range concerns".

The headroom in the rear is okay, but the Peugeot E-3008 is not a giant of space.
