Musk states that the Cybertruck's European version may differ from its current design.

Trucks with large pickup beds are popular in the United States, and Tesla has brought its own version to this market with the Cybertruck. However, due to its American-centric design, the Cybertruck can't be sold internationally without modifications.

Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, shared during the Annual Shareholder Meeting that the Cybertruck may need to be altered in order to be sold in Europe. These changes would only become viable at higher production levels, according to Musk. It's expected that the certification process for other countries might be completed "sometime in the coming year."

The Cybertruck was created with specifications for the North American market. Meeting different international requirements would add to the challenges, which, according to Musk, would have negatively impacted the product.

"I think we'll have to make a special version that complies with Chinese and European standards," Musk projected.

The Cybertruck's production began in late 2023, with its unique stainless steel exterior. Musk had predicted a production rate of around 250,000 units annually. However, it's unclear when Tesla will hit this target. The latest reports suggest that Tesla can manufacture a thousand Cybertruck units per week.

Large pickup trucks remain a preferred category in the US, but the majority of buyers still opt for gasoline or hybrid engines. Companies like Ford sell only a limited number of electric versions of their best-selling F-150 model.

Musk is confident that the Cybertruck can generate significant demand outside of the US. In early May, Tesla displayed the truck in several European countries. Some experts question whether the Cybertruck can be successfully marketed in its present form within EU regulations.
