Following a serious car crash near Berlin's Ku'damm neighborhood that resulted in two casualties, the prosecutor's office is conducting an inquiry into potential negligent homicide. Furthermore, an illegal street race is being examined, per a statement from a representative of the prosecutor's office.

The investigators speculate that a "solo race" was taking place, with the car allegedly traveling too fast. Preliminary police reports indicate that no other car was involved. The tragic incident occurred at around 4 a.m. on Tauentzien Street in West Berlin's inner city, where a 27-year-old man and a 18-year-old woman tragically perished.

The 27-year-old ultimately succumbed to his injuries on Thursday in the hospital, as the authorities disclosed. The 18-year-old had already passed away at the scene. Additionally, a 20-year-old and a 25-year-old were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.

The individuals were driving their vehicle at high speed on Tauentzien Street near the Ku'damm. The initial driver of the car is currently unknown. The vehicle is thought to have skidded and smashed into a concrete wall. The car reportedly rotated 180 degrees and ignited. Witnesses attempted to put out the fire.

Two firefighters suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning and were hospitalized. One passenger managed to escape the burning car, though seriously injured. Two people were trapped in the wrecked vehicle and were rescued. Five first aiders also sustained minor injuries and were treated onsite.
