It appears that in Hoyerswerda, Germany, age isn't a barrier when it comes to getting into a tussle over Pokémon. A spat between a 52-year-old and a 50-year-old during a virtual Pokémon showdown sparked a physical altercation and authorities are now looking into allegations of assault and threats.

Recently, the two older men visited a virtual Pokémon arena in Hoyerswerda, Saxony, where things heated up. A disagreement arose after one of the players won the Pokémon duel, causing the defeated man to take control of the arena. This displeased the victim, leading to a physical altercation between the two individuals.

After the fight, on Sunday, both parties filed a complaint with the authorities. The police are currently investigating the 52-year-old man for suspected assault and the 50-year-old for potential threats. The authorities mentioned that the control of the arena hadn't been resolved as the incident had occurred within the realm of "Pokémon activities", which falls under civil law.

Pokémon is a popular game where players collect and train creatures. With the launch of Pokémon Go in 2016, the game spurred a global craze as players tracked down hidden Pokémons in the real world using their smartphones. Although they're called Pocketmonsters, the game quickly became a staple of pop culture, withmarket research firm Sensor Tower reporting over a billion downloads and an estimated yearly revenue around one billion dollars. Pokémon was first introduced to the world by the Nintendo video game company.
