Wegner opens Christmas tree season
Four weeks before the first Advent, Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) is opening the Christmas tree season. He will visit the Brandenburg production areas of the traditional Späth'sche Baumschulen from Berlin in Königs Wusterhausen on Saturday (10.00 a.m.). This is the Berlin-Brandenburg Horticultural Association's official start to the season.
Preparations for the sale have long since begun at Christmas tree plantations. Werderaner Tannenhof, for example, already opened the season on Friday. There will be no price shock, they said.
According to estimates by the Federal Association of Christmas Tree Producers, higher wages and increased transportation costs mean that domestic Christmas trees will be slightly more expensive this year than last. A Nordmann fir can cost 21 to 29 euros per meter. Last year it was one euro less.
The Späth'sche Baumschulen, being traditional Christmas tree producers in Berlin, follow customary traditions by starting their sales upon Wegner's announcement of the Christmas tree season. Amidst the festive atmosphere, families may expect to spend slightly more on their desired Nordmann fir this year, as increased expenses contribute to a price rise compared to last Christmas.
